#10 Creativity & Innovation – Design Thinking
#9 Creativity & Innovation – ‘The Extraordinaires team challenge’
We were given 2 different cards. One with a person and the second with a type of object and we had to think of an object that the person would use. For the first card we were given a soldier and the second card was a time keeper. We came up with a few ideas including a necklace that had a small clock on it, a watch that couldn't get damaged that had his heart rate on it and glasses that had the time in the corner. We decided to go with the pair of glasses as we could add more advantages to it, so we added a symbol that shows where north is as well as the time and we also attached a small torch to the side.

#7 Case Study
1. The men should explain to Sam that he needs to be more serious about the situation and towards the other men. He needs to concentrate more on the competition then on other things. Sam is a real liability to the team.
2. Two of the women strongly dislike each other. i would handle this by asking what the situation is and if its something outside of the competition then to forget about it while we try to accomplish and win it.
3. In group situations if people start getting angry i would talk to them on their own and ask them what the problem is and we will solve it together without making a big fuss.
4.The communication skills needed in the men's group is that they all need to say what they think that will give the team more of a chance of winning the competition, and in the women's group its communicating with each other.

#6 Conflict Resolution
Step 1:
The issue is that someone didn't do anything in our team project.
Step 2:
We built trust by saying politely what was wrong and being honest about it.
Step 3:
We asked diagnostic questions.
Step 4:
We re framed our strategies
Step 5:
We Brainstormed different ideas or ways around the problem of him not doing his part of the job.
Step 6:
We decided on an Agreement. The problem was he didn't like the part we gave him so our agreement was that if we gave him a different part he would do it.

#5 Handling Conflict
I worked in Clara Lara Funpark and i worked on top of the water slide. A woman and her child came up to go down it. I told her politely that i couldn't let her son down the slide as he was under the height limit but she started cursing at me telling me i'm useless at my job and i shouldn't be working here. I told her its part of the health and safety guideline's to this water slide that you must be over a certain height to go on it and told her if she had a problem with me or the rules then to go to my manager, which she did and then my manager came up to me to asked about the situation and then the woman was asked to leave the slide as i was in the right.
#4 The Marshmallow Challenge
This Marshmallow challenge was a group exercise, it was a competition to see who could build the tallest tower out of spaghetti and it had to hold a marshmallow on the top. We were allowed to use string and sellotape.
We tried different techniques. many of them failed. eventually we came up with an idea of having a triangle foundation that was sellotaped to each leg to keep them supported. One side was very weak so we had to put extra string on it to keep it standing. We won as the other groups were unable to hold a marshmallow at the top.

#3 Dissidence among the ranks
If i was the team leader i would bring April into another room and tell her that it is unacceptable and she should have organised a group meeting and brought the situation up in a calm way so we could come up with a solution together as a team. I would tell her she had to go back in and apologize to him as she was too harsh.
After she had apologized i would have talked to him on his own saying that April was in the wrong but we do have to talk about how you aren't putting the work in. i would tell him that i know how talented he is and what he is capable of and that tour team really needs his talents.

#2 Building Trust
What is Trust?
Trust is being able to rely on someone and
believe in
them and have respect for them.
Can you describe a trusting relationship
in your life?
My friends – Always there for you, I can
rely on them,
talk to them openly knowing they won’t go
telling other
people.
What does it take to form a trusting relationship?
To have a trusting relationship you have
to be honest,
open, approachable and reliable.
How do trusting relationships differ from
relationships that may lack trust?
Trusting relationships are happier.
Relationships that lack trust have no
commitment to their relationship and lack of communication.

#1 Past Team Experiences
• The team I worked with was from my work place which is a fun park.
• What made the team exceptional was that we all had different ideas, so we had good and bad. We put a few ideas together to come up with one main good one. Everyone politely listened to each other’s ideas to hear what they had in mind. We made sure to cover the pros and cons of each idea and made sure to think about the safety policies for each idea. We each had different roles assigned to us. My role was to find the materials.
• We had to come up with a new idea for the kid’s playground. We came up with many different ideas such as a treehouse, zip line, new slide etc.
• Many members were committed to the team as we went home to research the cost of materials and to find a supplier. We rang different businesses asking for prices in are free time. We would also meet outside of work to discuss it what we have found out and what else needed to be researched.
• My past experience with an unsuccessful team was in a group in college. We failed as there was more than one dominant person. So they both thought their idea was much better. But we also had people that were the opposite of dominant and wouldn’t share their ideas because they were too scared to. No one knew their role in the group so it ended up nothing being done.
